Please
come and join Australian professional photographer Mark Rayner and
local Bali resident photographer Dave Metcalf on a spectacular
photography tour of the beautiful island of Bali.
This
is not the normal "Tourist" Bali visit. This is a journey to see hidden
gems and magical places you would not normally see at the typical
tourist haunts of Bali. You will visit ancient hidden temples, iconic
terraced paddy fields still ploughed by hand and view amazing
landscapes..
Wonderous
waterfalls and mountain views. This will be a photographic sensory
overload! The people of remote villages with their unrivalled
friendliness. This photography workshop and tour is not to be missed
Itinerary and Program of Events
Day 1
Meet
and greet at the airport and transfer to Ubud. The tour will be based
in the charming village of Ubud for the first two days staying at the
beautiful Puri Sunia, a luxury resort 10 minutes drive from the centre
of Ubud.
Enjoy a welcome dinner on the first night.
Day 2
The
next morning will be a sunrise ancient temple photo shoot followed by a
journey through picturesque landscapes to Jatiluwih to capture the late
afternoon sun, as it sets over the terraced rice fields, with majestic
volcanoes as a backdrop. Overnight at Puri Sunia.
Day 3
The
next morning you will be given an opportunity to interact with the local
Balinese people and photograph the colourful local traditional market.
After lunch and a workshop session on macro photography we will
travel to the spectacular volcanic caldera of Mount Batur to capture
the sunset and soft volcanic light of this unique region. Overnight at
Lake Batur.
Day 4
Early
morning sunrise photo shoot over Lake Batur and photograph the swirling
mists that rise from this beautiful lake. This is a very unusual
landscape and presents some wonderful opportunities to experiment with
black and white photography. There are a number of “Bali Aga” villages
in this area, which offer interesting architectural photographic
opportunities to challenge your photography skills and experiment with
your newly acquired skills learnt from the workshop.
The
afternoon drive takes us through some beautiful countryside (yes there
will be time to stop and take photographs en-route) to the mountain town
of Munduk
where we will stay for two nights.
Day 5
The
next morning we will be escorted by our local guides on a walk through
the green, lush rice fields and today includes a photo intensive on
waterfall photography.
After lunch and sampling some of the
delicious locally grown coffee, Mark will present a workshop review
session covering post production techniques.
This night we will
sample some Balinese gamelan music and enjoy the delicious Balinese food
at the Puri Lumbung Cottages. Overnight in Munduk.
Day 6
The
next morning we drive northwest through some beautiful countryside to
the coast. Lunch will be in Lovina, a very relaxed laid back village on
the Bali Sea. Our destination for the evening is Pemuteran.
Pemuteran
is a quiet seaside resort town. We will visit a local fishing village
and photograph the colourful life of the fisherman. Sunset photo shoot
promises to be spectacular, capturing the sun setting over the ocean.
This evening we will have a full review session and dine on delicious
locally caught fresh seafood. Overnight at Pemuteran.
Day 7
After
a sunrise shoot over the ocean we will head further west to an area
known as Jimbar Wana (meaning the great forest) and later on to
Jembrana.
More than half of this regency is forested. Very few
tourists visit this area, and the photographic opportunity today
includes shooting a picturesque temple situated on a cliff top. This
area is famous for the bull races and will present photo opportunities
that are a little different.
Overnight in Negara including a
farewell dinner for those not joining on the 2 day extended part of the
trip. Denpasar bound participants transfer back to the airport.
Day 8 – Extension
In the morning we will head west and catch a ferry across to East Java and then drive to the Ijen resort, Banyuwangi.
After
a relaxing afternoon, we will photograph the dramatic volcanic scenery
of Ijen at sunset. We will stay at the luxurious Ijen resort and enjoy
the cooler temperatures, as the resort is located at 643 metres above
sea level.
Day 9
In the morning we will be up before sunrise
to catch the magic hour and then travel to 2,600 meters above sea level
to the largest acid lake on earth.
Some fantastic opportunities to
photograph the sulphur farmers as they trudge their way up and down the
mountain carrying 80 kilos of sulphur in baskets on their backs.
We
return to the resort for lunch, and in the afternoon visit the remote
and seldom visited Randu Agung village. Evening review session with
Mark and a farewell dinner reviewing our best shots from an incredible
9-day Bali experience.
Day 10
The next morning we head back to Denpasar arriving mid afternoon to
co ordinate with flights back home.
