Three day “Girraween Experience” Photography Workshop and Tour

Spend 3 days in glorious Girraween National Park, approximately 260kms by road south-west of Brisbane, Queensland, photographing the stunning natural environment and inhabitants within.
Girraween is famous for its granite landscapes (hence the name “granite belt” used for the area), heath, sedgelands and eucalypt forests. It is home to numerous plants and wildlife, many which are unique to the area.
In spring, Girraween National Park boasts a profusion of wildflowers – perfect photographic subjects! This is the reason why we have chosen to present this photographic workshop during this time.

Girraween is a favourite location of both Michael and Mark. During this 3 day workshop, they can’t wait to show you the best spots to photograph and also teach you the best techniques for achieving great photos!

Photography tuition subjects will include:
• Wildflowers and other macro subjects
• Landscapes
• Depth of Field (DOF), Aperture/Shutter Speeds
• Metering and Exposure Compensation
• Lighting – Natural/Reflectors/Diffusers/Flash etc
• Focal Points and Focus Styles (e.g. AI servo etc)
• Tripods/remotes/mirror lock-up/Live View
• Composition

ItineraryFriday:
10:00am Start


  • Introduction, assessment of participant’s skill levels and review of camera settings.  This will be followed by a walk to photograph the Granite Arch.

  • Afternoon session - Macro photography – Here we will be concentrating on photographing the myriad of wildflowers that are in full bloom in September. We will choose the best location for wildflowers, after consultation with Girraween’s Park Rangers.  Presented along Dr Robert’s walking trail.















  • Night - Optional Star Trails photography. The sky doesn't get much clearer and this is the perfect opportunity to try this fascinating type of photography.

Saturday:

  • Macro/wildflower photography, but in a totally different part of Girraween National Park (The Junction track). Fine-tune your skills learned on the previous day’s macro session!

  • Afternoon – landscape photography (Underground Creek). HDR (High Dynamic Range) techniques explained.

Sunday:



  • Morning - Wildlife and bird photography session














  • After morning tea - “Nature walk” – Spend the day out, walking the Castle Rock track in Girraween National Park, photographing anything that takes your fancy! Michael and Mark will be there throughout the day to offer professional photographic advice and help you with any problems you may be encountering. (Lunch will be in-the-field).

Finish – Approx 2.00pm on Sunday 
During this thee day workshop, Michael and Mark will present group presentations as well as one-on-one tuition for each participant.  They will explain a variety of digital camera functions, teach you how to use these functions correctly and discuss different photographic techniques that will allow you to take better photos.

Things you should bring:

  • Camera (either compact or SLR)
  • For SLRs, any lenses ranging from 10mm to 400mm
  • External flash (if you own one)
  • Memory card(s)
  • Sturdy tripod (essential)
  • Camera owner’s manual – Important!
  • Fully-charged battery (and spare if you own one)
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Drinking water
  • Sunscreen and hat
  • Rain jacket or umbrella (just in case of rain!)
