WHALES, WILDLIFE AND GLACIERS – Photography Tour Sept 1 – 14 2016.
This trip is perfect for beginners, seasoned pros or just passionate photographers with a love for wildlife and extraordinary scenery that will take your breath away.
Get ready to photograph majestic whales as we cruise by boat around spectacular Glacier Bay, focus your zoom lenses on bald eagles as they majestically sore above the glacier carved mountains. Then we will go bear spotting on Admiralty Island, which has the highest populations of bears in Alaska. There are 1500 brown bears on this island so the shutters will be in overdrive as we photograph these magnificent creatures. We will travel by ferry as we explore the stunning waterways of this part of Alaska, and head up to Haines and Lynn Canal, North America’s longest and deepest fjord.
Waterfalls will be the subject on this trip as many pour down off the Chilikoot Range and the glaciers in the area. There are around 400 eagles in this area so plenty of opportunities to photograph these magnificent birds of prey. From Haines we hop on board the historic railway and have a real Yukon adventure as we cross Glacier Gorge and Dead Horse Gulch photographing the Bridal Veil Falls as we climb 2,885 feet to White Pass.
Rated as the most spectacular train ride in the world, this will be just one of the many highlights on this adventure.
We stay the night in Whitehorse in the Yukon as we explore the historical buildings of this area and marvel at the surrounding mountains that tower all around us. Then back on the water as we spend more days on the ferry, a leisurely and delightful experience, visiting the friendly fishing towns of Ketchikan, Sitka, and St Petersburg.
As we travel from Juneau to Seattle you will have plenty of opportunities to get tips and instructions from Mark and Dave on photographing landscapes and wildlife. Another highlight will be Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve where we will go in search of harbour seals, porpoises, killer whales, sea otters, over 200 bird species and mountain goats, moose and wolves.
This will be amazing experience and one I am sure you will never forget. Alaska is an extraordinary place and one of the last great wilderness frontiers of the world. There are few, if any, places with the unspoiled wilderness, mountainous grandeur and immense wildlife that is showcased in Alaska. But don’t listen to me come and see for yourself.
This trip has been carefully planned to maximise the high points of this region of Alaska. This wonderful experience will be limited to ten photographers and I suggest you get in soon and put your deposit down without delay. In August this year Alaska sold out in one week and we expect similar interest in the September 2016 adventure.
The group meets in Juneau, Alaska on September 01, 2016 and finishes up back in Seattle on September 14. The last night is in Seattle on Sept 13. See Day to Day itinerary on the website ->
