Easy Backup for Apple Users
Hi Everyone,
Backing up your images can be a dilemma for many people. Its easy to forget and then if the unthinkable happens and a hard drive dies many special images could be lost.
Thanks fully, for Mac users (sorry Windows users, this is only for Macs), there is a simple way to back up your images.
If you are storing your images on you computer's hard drive and using Time Machine to backup to an external drive you are already covered. Well done.
If you're images are stored on an external drive then maybe you're backing using 3rd party software or simply copying your files to another drive.
There is an easier way. I've had clients who have asked at an Apple store about using Time Machine to backup an external drive and been told it can't be done. Trust me it works.
The first step is to ensure that your external drive to be used for backup is big enough. If you computer has a 1TB hard drive and you are using a 2TB external drive to store you images then you'll be best off using at least a 4TB external drive for backup. It will need to fit everything on and its always best to have some spare space.
To get Time Machine to back up your external drive you simple need to tell Time Machine to include the external drive.
As in the image below, if you see your external drive listed, that means it is excluded from the Time Machine backup. To include it just click on the minus symbol and it will disappear from the exclusions. That is it! Next time that Time Machine runs your external photo drive will be backed up.
From then on every time you have that drive plugged in at the same time as your main backup external drive the backup will be updated.
Simple and easy.
You can now be confident that your beautiful images are safe and sound.
Cheers,
Mark
